Free Training for Parents

Special Education:  Begin with the End in Mind

Presented by:  Hank Millward, Tracy Lee, and Gloria Dalton

Join us for a live VDOE Zoom webinar.  Registration is required.

Date:  Tuesday, August 25, 2020         Time:  6 p.m. -7 p.m.

Begin with the End in Mind Training

All families have dreams and goals in mind for their children when they go off to school. Regardless of whether children have disabilities or not, all parents want their children to learn, explore, and experience as much as they possibly can. Parents strive for their children to complete their education, obtain a diploma, and be fully prepared to move on toward their chosen path, whether that is immediate employment, higher education, or something else. In order for your child to achieve these goals, there are certain decisions that you, as a parent, will have to make along the way. Parents need to begin their planning and decision-making with the end goal always in mind.

The purpose of this training is to help families understand the importance of continually revisiting their goals for their children, as well as their children’s goals for themselves. In order to help our children eventually reach their destination, we need to be constantly assessing their goals to be certain that we are heading to the right place.

Please join us on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at 6 p.m. to learn how placement, curriculum, and assessments may influence your child’s ability to reach their own individual goals.

The presenters will be available to answer questions after the presentation, as time permits.

Welcome Back!

Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!

Happy 2020-2021 School Year from the Parent Teacher Resource Center!  I wanted to take this time to introduce myself to everyone.  My name is Kim Bledsoe, and I am the Transition Coordinator for Culpeper County Schools.  I have been with Culpeper Schools in this position for the last 10 years, and look forward to working with our students and families in learning more about their goals, and helping them on their path adulthood.

In this unprecedented time, the start of a new school year comes with many expectations, those we place on ourselves, those we have for our kids, and those we have for our schools.  This school year is going to come with expectations and experiences that we have never had before.  Communication, collaboration and cooperation are more important than ever!  In addition to the C’s; planning is equally important.  Planning is a part of our everyday lives!  In working with our students with disabilities, plans also include new experiences and opportunities.  We are part of a remarkable group, because we make plans, and then make more plans to include more or less, and are the experts in doing this.

With the start of the new school year, we are planning!  Our Special Education Advisory Committee has set up their meeting dates and presentations, and planning for future events.  The meeting dates and presentations are:

Tuesday, September 8 - Community Resources

Tuesday, November 10 - Discipline

Tuesday, January 12 (with a snow date of Tuesday, January 19) - Restraint and Seclusion

Tuesday, March 9 (with a snow date of Tuesday March 16) - nominations

Tuesday, May 11 - elections

Keep planning, communicating, collaborating and cooperating with us, and know that the Parent Teacher Resource Center is here to help.
