Family Engagement Through the Ages August 17th | 6:30 - 7:30 pm
Family Engagement goes beyond the four walls of a family home. Children benefit when families engage in the child’s education. Research continues to show when families and schools partner, students have improved cognitive development, academic performance, better social-emotional development, and improved health. This holds true for students with disabilities.
This interactive panel discussion will explore the importance of family engagement in early childhood and in preparing the student for life after high school including: What does family engagement look like in the early years and how does it evolve as the student transitions through middle school, high school, and adulthood? Join us as we discuss these topics and explore others. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_JkIG9o8iSx-r-nbymd23MA#/registration

Successful Transition Planning and the IEP August 25th | 12:00 pm
For parents, and students aged 14 and older, this workshop will encourage active participation in developing a meaningful and useful transition plan to help in preparing for life as an adult when they finish school. Attendees will learn what needs to be in the transition plan and what the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) says about transition services. The transition plan is part of the IEP for students in Virginia who are age 14 and over. It can be frightening to contemplate life after school has finished, but PEATC is here to help take the mystery out of it and to give you the information you need to ensure that a successful transition is within the reach of your child. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_bKahNrsuR6O4OacvXj5UXA#/registration
